Steve Southworth


Lieutenant Southworth, originally from Richmond, Virginia, began his law enforcement career in 1983 with the Chesterfield County Police Department. He served the county for over ten years as a patrol, marine, crime scene and DARE officer. He then chose a career path in highway safety as a training consultant and services manager. He returned to law enforcement in 2002 as a patrol officer with the Wintergreen Police Department. He was promoted to Investigator in 2005, and began his supervisory duties in 2008.

Lieutenant Southworth graduated from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College and Virginia Commonwealth University with degrees in Criminal Justice. He currently coordinates a group named the Blue Ridge Area Investigators, who meet monthly in Charlottesville and Staunton to share case information and discuss regional crime issues. He also teaches interview/interrogation techniques and report writing to police recruits at the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy in Lynchburg.

Lieutenant Southworth is the Bureau Commander of the Professional Standards/Investigations Bureau. Outside of work, he enjoys hiking, camping, boating, volunteer rescue squad and family activities.
