Deputy Chief Joseph P. Davis began his career with the Wintergreen Police Department in November of 1991. He served in the position of Criminal Investigator until his promotion to the rank of Sergeant in 1995 and later promoted to the position of Deputy Chief in June of 2004. He is also a weapons armorer with Beretta for pistols and with Colt for patrol rifles.

Having graduated from the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy in 1979, his prior law enforcement experience includes 5 years as a Deputy Sheriff with the Nelson County Sheriff’s Department and 8 years with the police division at Babcox and Wilcox Nuclear Technologies in Lynchburg, Virginia where he served as a Range Officer Sniper with the SWAT team for seven years.

Deputy Chief Davis is the Bureau Commander of the Field Operations Bureau, which is comprised of all sworn police officers.
